Fried Rice

Fried rice is super delicious and also a very very easy dish to make on your own. Play around with what vegetables and protein you add to this meal. It will change the flavors of the dish a bit but it is hard to get this one wrong.

Jesse and I prefer to use short-grained Japanese sticky rice. We typically use the brand Nishiki. It helps to make this an easy dish to enjoy with chopsticks.

Bowl of fried rice on a table

 1 ½ cups uncooked rice
 2 cups water
 1 carrot
 1 onion
 1 bell pepper
 8 oz sweet peas
 2 cloves of garlic
 ½ inch of ginger root
 8 oz protein of choice
 soy sauce (to taste)
 oil
 6 eggs
1

Cook rice. Use whatever method you are used to. Jesse and I use a rice cooker. Also if you are not using a short grain sticky rice follow your rice's ratio for rice to water.

2

Chop up all of the vegetables and the protein. On a small holed grater, grate the ginger and garlic cloves. Heat up a large pan with oil.

3

Sautee the onions and the meat with the ginger and garlic. Once meat has been seared and the onions are translucent add in the rest of the vegetables.

4

After a couple of minutes add in the rice. Add soy sauce, and pepper to your taste. This point you just wait for everything to be cooked to how you enjoy it. Insure that you meat is to the proper safe temperature and that your vegetables are as soft as you would like. If you want very crispy rice leave it to cook in the pan for longer with plenty of oil.

5

If you would like to add scrambled eggs add them in right before everything is done. I make a clear spot in the middle of the pan, crack the eggs directly into it and scramble them around mixing them into the fried rice.

Another great option is to throw fried eggs on top of the rice.
