Sweet Potato Chili

The great thing about chili is that you can really use whatever vegetables you have on hand. Jesse and I decided to throw in some sweet potato when we didn't have enough normal potatoes. So happy that we did because the results were amazing. Also if you want to make this dish without meat it is super easy to just add in more beans.

Prep Time20 minsCook Time45 minsTotal Time1 hr 5 mins
 32 oz Black beans
 16 oz Kidney beans
 28 oz Crushed tomatoes
 1 Carrot
 1 Sweet potato
 2 Potatoes
 1 Onion
 1 Broccoli
 1 Bell pepper
 1.50 lbs Ground pork
 1.50 tbsp Soy sauce
 1 tbsp Hoisin sauce
 1 tsp Worchestershire sauce
 1 tsp Siracha
 1.50 tsp Cumin seeds
 1.50 tsp Mustard seeds
 1 tsp Ground cumin
 1 tbsp Chili powder
 1 tsp Curry powder
 3 Garlic cloves
1

Chop up all of the veggies. Mix in half of the soy sauce, hoisin sauce, all of the worcestershire sauce, and siracha into the raw ground pork. Heat up a giant pot or dutch oven with oil. When hot add in cumin seeds and mustard seeds stirring until you hear them hissing.

2

Add in the onion, sweet potato, and potato stirring occasionally for 5 mins. Then add in the carrots stirring for about 3 mins.

3

Add in ground pork stirring until browned, about 4 mins. Add in broccoli, and bell pepper followed by the beans (not drained) and crushed tomatoes. Add in all the spices that have not been added yet as well as crushed garlic. Add in 6 to 7 cups of water, you want everything to just be covered by the water.

4

Bring to a boil and then reduce to a simmer, leave it simmering for 20 mins or until potatoes are tender.

5

Serve! Add on top your preferred chili toppings. We always use plain greek yogurt and this time used parmesan cheese rather than cheddar cheese.

  • Great recipe! It was such a fun twist on the normal chili. I loved the seasonings that are added to in. Even though it’s big. I can”t see myself getting tired of it.
